International English Language Testing System

The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is the most accepted International standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is managed by IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English and was established in 1989. IELTS has been developed by some of the world’s leading language assessment experts and will test the full range of English skills needed for success in your study placement abroad or a new job.

IELTS measures or test series of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking (IELTS exam) skills of the candidates in English. About 5,000 government agencies, educational institutions, and professional organizations around the world accept IELTS and PTE scores as proof of English proficiency of the candidates

Over 12 lac people take this test across 130 countries. IELTS scores range from Band 1 to 9, with Band 1 score indicating the non-user and Band 9 indicating the expert user with full English language command.

The International English language testing system is one of the basic tests to check your ability in English proficiency. IELTS is accepted by many countries, organizations institute professional associations and employers. This test is basic and ally for students who are willing to study abroad at various destinations such as Canada, Australia, NZ, USA, UK, and Europe. The IELTS test has two categories: Academic & General.

IELTS Academic –

This is basically for the Study Visa Purpose. The Academic test is for those people who are trying to secure entry into international schools or colleges to secure schools on college graduate, graduate, and postgraduate educational program rams.

IELTS General -

The General Training Test is for those people who wish to join various kinds of vocational training courses, work visas, or permanent residency visas i.e these scores are the purpose for students who want to immigrate to Australia, Canada, or New Zealand.

The IELTS test has four modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking consuming 2 hours and 45 minutes in total.
The Speaking test will be conducted on a different day while the other three modules on the same day.


Listening (30 minutes)


You will listen to four recordings of Native English Speakers and then write your answers to a series of 40 different questions.


Reading (60 minutes)


The Reading component consists of 40 questions in three various passages, designed to test a wide range of reading skills of the student.


Writing (60 minutes)


The writing Module consists of Task 1 & Task 2 in which task 1 will ask you to analyze, explain and compare the given data to evaluate the student’s writing skills. However, task 2 will check the efficiency of the student in writing an essay on a specific general topic.


Speaking (11-14 minutes)


The speaking test will assess your communication skills in English. Each test will be recorded for the quality evaluation process. Part – 1 The examiner will ask you a few introductions and general questions. Part – 2 A Cue-card will be given to check the fluency and consistency in English. Part – 3 Further questions will be asked related to Cue-card.

IELTS Validity

The result is Valid for Two Years only.

IELTS Scores

The IELTS score ranges from 1-9 for each module. The average of all 4 modules produces your overall band score.


The IELTS exam is held four times in one month at all the major test centres across the country including Academic and GT modules.

IELTS Registration

The test aspirant must apply to a test centre to take an IELTS test before the test date. Submit the IELTS application form at the test centre with the test fee, two passport-sized photographs, and a photocopy of your passport. The student wishes his choice of the test centre and the test centre will give final confirmation about the date and time when you want to take the IELTS test. You will need to take the passport or other identification number; you mentioned in the admission form while taking the test.

What is UKVI?

United Kingdom Visas and Immigration
IELTS for UKVI’ is a UK government-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT). This means that IELTS can be used to prove your English language abilities in support of a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) application. For many visa categories, you must submit an English language qualification included on the UK Home Office’s list of Secure English Language Tests
(SELT tests).
The below IELTS tests have been duly approved for UKKVI Purpose :
One Reading section, consisting of three to four passages that are roughly 700 words each. Each Passage will be followed by 12-14 multiple–choice questions about the content of the passage.

Who needs IELTS UKVI?

If you'd like to study in the UK, you may need to take a UKVI IELTS to demonstrate your English language ability to apply for a Tier 4 Student visa. If you're a student and want to study ab program with INTO that is considered 'below degree level, you'll need to take an IELTS Academic for UKVI test.
